Re: Why are so many in Love with AGM's

My source is one of the sales guys at my local interstate battery warehouse, here in NC, USA.
Seems to be due to federal government laws.

If you need me to find the exact laws it will take me at least a few days to get it.

I am happy to report that they have settled down and work as before with no apparent damage except the bulge is still there. I never leave them with the charger on unattended as I dont exactly trust them anymore. The USA distributer is incognito via phone due to Covid he says.

Re: Why are so many in Love with AGM's

I think there is a huge difference between a cheap AGM and a worthwhile AGM. Take for example a King AGM 98 AH which is popular on social media at the moment for $200 aud. It’s 4kg and $250 lighter than the equivalent Fullriver ( 105AH for $450).

A good quality AGM is a heavy AGM as it has considerably more lead in it.

There something to be said for comparing batteries of the same capacity be weight.

Re: Why are so many in Love with AGM's

I agree. A battery is all about chemistry. There has to be enough material to support the capacity and length of service.

Starting batteries get their capacity with surface area. Since the high draw is for a short time, they don't need the plate thickness.

A deep cycle battery has thicker plates and less high amperage capacity.

AGM's basically use a glass mat to separate the plates and support the electrolyte, but the chemistry is basically the same.
