Re: Two battery banks in different locations

if you have a large inverter in that situation you really can't balance it properly. I would take both the pos and neg for the inverter off one half of the bank. but I would try to take the pos for all the other loads off the other half of the bank. so atleast when the inverter was off the bank was balanced.

you'd want the inverter to be on the neg side of the boat so you can properly put a house shunt in

trying to run a 2000w inverter off a balanced bank with ~20' of jumpers in-between would just be crazy they would need to be like triple 4/0.

also fuse the pos jumper wire between the 2 halfs on both sides. the Blue sea MRBF's work good for this.

the size of the all the wires depends on what you have on the boat for all the loads and charging.

Re: Two battery banks in different locations

Hello,

I have a split house bank... I have a series/parallel combination.

Spending the money on cables is worth its weight in Gold !!! Running the parallel lines to a buss bar really helps the charge to all. It has been 19 months since the install, and batteries are still healthy and happy !

Here is how I set it up...

(ANL fuses and disconnects are not shown in this diagram, Just my original plan)
