Portable Generator as Back-Up

So I am planning a trip in the near future that would keep me off of shore power for a while. I use very little power, but of course would be using nav and cabin lights that would be drawing off a 12V group 24 battery. As well, I have a 12v starting battery for the Atomic 4. When at the dock, the Guest pro charge 20 Amp system keeps everything topped off as well as the alternator when the engine is running. Planning for the unforeseeable, such as the engine or alternator failing, I would want to be sure I could keep the batteries charged. I have a 1000 watt portable generator that I think, by reading other posts, would do the job. I might be over thinking this, but would it be safe on the systems to plug the shore power (with the correct cord set up) directly into the generator?

I use one all the time, just plug my shore power cord in and start it up. No issues, thought be careful that the exhaust does blow into a hatch or dorade.

For safety make sure the generator is grounded should be a ground stud on the gen connect that to the boats ground or bonding system with a #8 wire. Generators kill people all the time best be safe
