MPPT Troubleshooting Question

We bought a used boat with two solar controllers and what i think is another thing connected to a wind gen. While troubleshooting the electrical system trying to track down what's draining my batteries, I disconnected all the positive leads from the battery bank. all the controllers went blank. I reconnected the positive leads, but the controllers are still blank. While it was all disconnected, I put a meter on what should be the output of the MPPTs but there was no voltage.

Did I screw them up by disconnecting them from the batteries? I haven't seen the manuals for these, although they may be on board.

You may have killed them. Some will only accept being disconnected from the batteries after the solar power has been disconnected.

Re: MPPT troubleshooting question

Solar makes life a little complicated sometimes. Before disconnecting the batteries, you should disconnect the + side from the panels to the controller first. If your lucky there may be a fuse in the controller that blew...
