On mine it was capacitors that failed after hardly any use. The genny had been sitting in a garage for a few years brand new before I bought it. When I installed it the impeller was nearly shredded and after a short period of use the capacitors failed. Fortunately an easy and cheap repair but a so-and-so to find many details on it. I guess advice is to check/ replace capacitors and only then to tackle the diode if it still doesn’t work.
