Thanks everyone for your help.

So if the engine is being overloaded, what is the Exhaust Gas Temperature range that would indicate this problem. Same question for any other good metrics to monitor engine overloading?

I'd be suspicious of anything over about 1100F.

This is correct. I used to run a 500hp (at the rear wheels) Cummins powered Dodge. The pyrometer probe is downstream of the combustion so it reads less than what is happening at the pistons. Much past 1100 (hotter in the combustion chamber) pistons start to fail.
