Lagoon 450F Screacher or Code 0?

We have a new to us 2012 with sprit and halyard available. Does anybody out there have any experience with these sails to make a recommendation? We have light winds on the Chesapeake Bay, and I'd also like to give her some more oomph! :-)

Thanks!

Re: Lagoon 450F Screacher or Code 0?

Buy a Code Zero, with a UV band cover and you can leave it on on your bowsprit or months on end..Depending on the local conditions, have the sailmaker make one with more or less power in closer wind angles. Double check the halyard for it: the load on the rig is big. Dyneema is way preferable. Don't scrimp on the shackle either.
Enjoy!

Re: Lagoon 450F Screacher or Code 0?

Get code 0 that can goes as close to wind as practicable then, in addition for deeper downwind get a spinnaker in a sock, second hand mono kites with 60ft luff are fine for sailing around the Chesapeake on the runs down to Norfolk and not a big capital cost ($500 - $1000) if you stuff it up. It can use same halyard and sheets as the code 0.

+1 on the Code Zero with a constant furler AND an asymmetrical spinnaker with a sock. We run our code zero in light air 50-150 awa. Asymmetrical takes over at 150-180.

Re: Lagoon 450F Screacher or Code 0?

I agree with the others. A screacher is smaller to trim inside the shrouds for light wind upwind. The Code 0 area is between a screacher and spinnaker and uses the spinnaker points of attachment sheeting outside the shrouds to the spinnaker blocks aft. This is the most versatile addition to the main and genoa.
If interested, we can give a quote for a new Code 0.

I second this.

Hi Dave,

We’d spoken not long after we sold our Corsair 36 and were looking at a Leopard 46 like yours (with those lovely black sails!). We changed our minds and went with the 450F. I’ll be reaching out to you after we bring it home next month.

I’ve been looking at endless furlers, but do have a recommendation?

Thanks!

why not just 'tacking' code zero when between 150 and 180? Seems faster and easier. Loss due to TWA tacking angle geometry is minimal ~3%. And you do not have to change sail again when wind shifts.

give me convincing reason for assym - i have the budget

Hi Lee,
I was also looking at the Lagoon 450. Looks like a very nice boat. Let me know if interested in a quote for the Code 0. I think this is the best way to go if adding one more sail to the main and jib. We have been using an Italian Continuous line Code 0 furler for several cats lately. This is the UBI Maior Code 0 furler. I can offer some deep discounts on these if buying a sail;
UBI MAIOR Italia
