Urgent! Boat Required for a Documentary

We are urgently looking for a boat (any type as long as it can hold up to 4 people plus captain/skipper) to shadow a 6.5m Landing Craft as it sails from King Island to Melbourne this Friday (15th April) or Sat 16th April.

The boat must be able to carry the four documentary crew, plus 9 small cases of camera equipment and luggage. The boat will be used as a support vessel for the four boys traveling in the 6.5m Landing Craft. We plan to film the boys in from the support boat and travel alongside them. The 6.5m Landing Craft can travel up to around 10knots, but happy to go slower if needs be.

We are filming a documentary called The Green Way Up, in which 4 guys travel around Australia on biodiesel only. 6.5m Landing Craft will run on biodiesel. We started in Tasmania (sailing to Three Hummock Island, then to King Island) we now need to sail to Melbourne in order to continue our journey in a biodiesel car all the way to Darwin.

The boys will collect waste oil as they go which they will turn into biodiesel to fuel the car.

If you have a boat, or know anyone who can help us. Please let me know!

Thanks

Great idea, however, doesn't that defeat the purpose of the "green" journey. Unless you are using a biodiesel vessel yourself? Just wondering..

Sounds like an interesting project. ANd don't listen to the cynics... I see you sailed some of the way. That's good. And it's also good that your guys are collecting waste fuel to recycle!

Good luck finding a boat...

Re: Urgent! Boat Required for a Documentary

What is the experience level of the producer & crew?

Are you insured for damages and liability?

Will you make the vessel a named insured on the insurance policies?

Will you post a bond to cover damages?

What are you paying for use of the boat and captain's time?

Are you picking up expenses like fuel, moooring/docking, food?

Just how big are these "Small" cases? Are they hard cases or soft sided bags?

Anyone getting involved in professional video aboard their boat needs to go in with eyes wide open. There should be a licensed captain in charge of the boat.
Damages can happen, hopefully only minor scratches, dings & dents.

Video production is a big distraction for all involved and easily leads to injury or damages for people not paying attention to their surroundings. Combine a new environment for the video crew, a pitching boat, a novel distraction for the boat crew and stuff can happen. Make sure you are prepared.
