Passenger for Now, Crew Later . . . ?

Hey, I know this is a lot to ask but I've been staring enviously at boats all summer but have yet to even ride in a sailboat. I think it's something I would like to do (and be good at) but I've missed all the sail lessons due to work and I'd really like to try it out sometime before next summer. Do you guys have any suggestions for how I might go about being a passenger on a boat for a day or weekend? If you think sitting at a dockside bar and waiting for a boat-owning guy to pick me up is the best idea out there, do you have any recommendations on the CT shoreline? New London/Waterford/Mystic Thanks!
