Re: Crew wanted - Lagoon 440 Spain to Thailand - August

PM me if you want details of import agent I used. You will have to pay 7% VAT to register plus need your Tambien Bahn as proof of residence.

My own view on Thailand, having invested (and repatriated, illegally, the legal means are too onerous) significant amounts of cash there, is never own anything in that country. It simply makes you a bigger target.

In the land of slimes, "if it flies, floats or f@@@s, RENT it don't buy it" is the best advice.

Re: Crew wanted - Lagoon 440 Spain to Thailand - August

Aloha Mike,
I would be very interested in sailing to Thailand.
Been there many times , love the country.
Like some of the others who have written, I am not into
The mess around North Africa .
Let me know if you need good crew , also any other captains
Who may deliver , I am interested .
Thank you , jeff

Welcome to CF!

FWIW our experience may be different to what's suggested above. We sailed a 6 mos old Lagoon 440 from Sardinia to Sydney, via the Panama Canal; we reckoned that was just under 14000nm. Our experience was:
  • We only used 1400L of fuel for the whole voyage...and our engines NOW (with ~20000nm passed under the hulls) are ~900hr each;
  • The sails handled the voyage very well. We did some repair and re-stitching to obvious wear points, but they were still going fine. We subsequently replaced the main out of choice, but the original headsail is still going OK;
  • The interior of the vessel travelled (and is still travelling) fine;
  • Although we did undertake some repairs during the voyage (due, we suggest, to it being really the vessel's first 'blue water' outing) there were no major repairs or equipment replacements as a result of the voyage; and
  • We definitely needed new anti-foul, but because we were almost constantly moving during the voyage, the hulls came out of the water smooth and clean in Sydney. So the anti-foul was basically not an issue insofar as the trip was concerned.
Good luck with your plans!

Hey Mike,
Sent you an e-mail.. to be honest all I can suggest is start a thread 'Anyone shipped their boat as cargo' and were they happy when it got to the other end...
Its your call.. but it'd be one hell of a 'Sea Trial'...

i think the $60-70k shipping fee put him off that,plus the hassel of having 2 delivery crews at either end to load and un ship from departure and arrival points.

haven't heard back from him since my last reduced quote,so he might have found a cowboy who will do it
