Wind Vane for 40' Yacht
Hi,
We are removing the wind vane auto helm rudder from our yacht, it is in good condition, age unknown,to help with the age date of wind vane, boat launched in 1990 and was in survey until 2000
We are open to offers , it will be remove when both parties are in agreement, as we need to do a little work when it is removed, the buyer to pick up Gold Coast.
Email your offer, as you can see there is everything there - even the covers "in blue"

Re: WIND VANE FOR 40' YACHT
It has its own rudder with trim tab - I can take a photo of the rudder for you if you like it is in the shed here.
We are located near the Gold Coast.

Hi Ray,
Thank you for your email, so far we have not come across a name on it, maybe when it is removed it will be underneath.
Sorry I cannot help further.

Re: Wind Vane for 40' Yacht
Is it a "home made" unit?

Re: Wind Vane for 40' Yacht
Hi, sorry for the later reply, have been working on the yacht.
We purchased the yacht with it on, the brand is 'QME' Quantock Marine Enterprises
I have read up about this unit, it was made in England and looks like a DIY purchased plan, but cannot be sure, it is extremely well made. We are removing from the yacht this week, open to offers now.
Cheers

I am in Sydney and would like to ask some questions and talk about price. I would like to know though how it performed on your boat. You can contact me on 0421799347 or by email.
Cheers,
Colin

Re: Wind Vane for 40' Yacht
Auxiliary Rudder/Trimtab Self Steering Gear
The horizontal axis airvane of the auto-helm windvane powers the trimtab. Water flowing past the trimtab controls the auxiliary rudder which, in turn, steers the boat. The boat’s main rudder is locked and used to balance the boat. For the skipper who wants the security of an emergency rudder and hates lines in the cockpit.
The auto-helm windvane is suitable for many boats under 50 feet. It is especially suited for boats with:
Excessive play or friction in main steering system
Hydraulic steering
Wheel steering with more than four turns
Center cockpit/Aft cabin
High freeboard
Bad weather helm
Mizzen boom
Boomkin
Transom davits
This system uses a horizontal axis wind vane to control a trim-tab on its own fully independent rudder. No connection to your boat’s steering system is necessary. Great for a boat with hydraulicsteering or a center cockpit, or as a way to add an emergency rudder and wind vane at the same time.

Re: Wind Vane for 40' Yacht
We have just spoken to the previous owner of our yacht, he said a fair asking price for the autohelm - wind vane and rudder would be $500 - sorry but we had no idea of the price and took it from an overseas ad, we are happy to sell it at this price
