Soverel 33 - performance sailboat

Looking for the ideal boat for SoCal? Here it is! Ask anyone who knows their boats, the Soverel 33 is a fast, fun and surprisingly comfortable boat that excels in light winds (and also is a blast when it picks up). She day sails at 8 knots easily and will surf at 15+ when the wind picks up. Yet for an ULDB she's surprisingly easy to sail and very comfortable. This particular boat was the only one built with the "Grand Touring" interior, so is not only prettier on the inside, but also more comfortable and works very nicely for trips to Catalina or up the coast. I also have a full inventory of good sails, a new tiller pilot, new 12v refrigeration, and lots of other upgrades. Visit the class association website ( Soverel 33 - Home Page ) if you're not familiar with this boat. I'm moving up to a bigger boat so am motivated to see her find a new owner. If you are looking for a boat in this size range, you owe yourself a look. Asking price: $24,900.00

Re: Soverel 33 - performance sailboat

She sailed out of Monterey, CA under the name "Pretender" and did quite well there (follow this link to see her 2012 results). I brought her down to San Diego last Summer but haven't raced her there yet. There are two other Soverel 33's here in SD, one ("Babe") rates 93 and the other ("Waterworks") has a carbon bowsprit and rates 89. So chances are once my boat gets a SOCAL PHRF certificate it's rating will probably be around 93-ish.

Here's what I have for sails:
Main - Dacron, top full battens, 2 reefs, Santa Cruz Sails - excellent condition
Main - Carbon, kevlar, mylar, top full battens, 2 reefs, Santa Cruz Sails - excellent condition
#1 - Carbon, kevlar, mylar, Santa Cruz Sails - very good condition
#2 - 3DL, North - very good condition
#3 - Kevlar, mylar, Santa Cruz Sails - good condition
Spinnaker - .75oz nylon, Santa Cruz Sails - very good condition
Spinnaker - .50oz poly, Santa Cruz Sails - very good condition

Send me your email address and I can send you a full spec sheet (including PHRF certificate).

Re: Soverel 33 - performance sailboat

Bumpity bump again. I'm getting a lot of interest but still on the market. Bought another boat so either I promote myself to fleet admiral or sell this girl. Wife says sell the Soverel 33 so that settles that.

She motors at about 5 - 5.5 knots and at WOT burns about a quart an hour of diesel. So with the one 9 gallon tank that's a theoretical range of about 180 nm. I have a second 9 gallon tank that the previous owner removed (for racing) but could be re-installed (I still have all the hoses and hardware) giving you twice that range.

But that's purely under power and this boat loves to sail. During my delivery down from Monterey to San Diego we motor sailed from Avalon to San Diego and it took us about 12 hours (about 77 miles), which is about as long as it would typically take a 40 foot sailboat with a big engine. Under sail, just my wife and I as crew, we day sail at 8+ knots regularly. Love to see the look on big boat owners' faces as we scoot by.

I bought a "top of the line" porta potti with MSD. It has a 5 gallon tank that will hold about 4 days worth (give or take) and a manual pump to empty it overboard. More than enough for a weekend, and if you're going to stay longer, just go offshore one day for a daysail, empty the tank and return. We normally harbor hop the island(s) so it works out perfectly. Plus, because it's a porta potti it there isn't any smell and won't break down on you. My new boat has two marine heads, two Y-valves, two holding tanks and it's a constant battle to keep it working and not stinky. Porta potti's are the way to go, especially on a boat this size.

Re: Soverel 33 - performance sailboat

Just had to share this: I had a friend come over yesterday that has a Newport 30 and looked inside my Soverel 33 for the first time. He couldn't get over how spacious, bright and clean the boat is on the inside. Nearly as much storage as my Beneteau 40. Funny how many people who just assume a performance boat can't have a nice interior.

Here's an awesome shot of our sister-boat "Deviation" from the East Coast:

Re: Soverel 33 - performance sailboat

Hey there, been talking with the brokers and am interested. Any chance you have a billion photos of the deck, hardware, any defects etc? Basically am interested enough to look at deck hardware, get it surveyed and the hard part, find a place to put in in San Francisco. ;p

Also, do you know which builder built this one? How many seasons the race sails have seen? Does it have a mast spreader bar (Bar of doom)? Any bow reinforcementns? you can post here or better, send to afinn@alumni.purdue.edu
