Re: Please Fulfill My Dreams With A Cape Dory 26D!

I went solo to Bermuda and back in a CD26 outboard. It was challenging. Don't believe an inboard would have made a big difference.

It's okay, it's 10pm, mommy probably tucked him in for the night.
He is having sweet dreams of his cd26d by now.

Were you tempted to leave the boat in bermuda and fly home?

Cape Dory 26D. Not in the CD literature but it looks like there were some made.

Like I was saying! I always thought the 26 was a dumb model. Hard to imagine why Cape Dory ever tried to make so many different models.

Re: Please Fulfill My Dreams With A Cape Dory 26D!

They were building small expensive boats, rising prices demanded a effort to cut costs, the 26 was a slightly stretched version of the 25D, less expensive with outboard and some other changes- a Coleman cooler in lieu of a real icebox for instance. Still a well built boat. Dragging the submerged outboard around all the time was not ideal.

Yes, since my trip was planned around a full time job (big mistake), I sailed over in November, flew home and returned to sail home in April. Could only leave the boat there for 6 months without paying duty. April was pretty early to return, weather was "unsettled".

How come?!!!! Because of the sheer size?! Or was it a handling thing? Not sea-kindly?

There is a CD25 on Ebay right now for only $1800. Add a 1 ft bowsprit and you are in business!
