Re: I'm Sell'n the Ugly Duckling

Del,

We are sorry to hear about this.

To the rest of the readers, I have been aboard his boat a few times, and Del does absolutely first class work.
Any buyer would be acquiring a real gem.

Re: I'm Sell'n the Ugly Duckling

[QUOTE=bsurvey;1756349]sir,

interesting retrofit can you tell me

are the hull and deck composite and if so what is the core

The hull is FG with a foam core. It's about 1 5/8" close to the keel and then tapers up to 1" at the deck. The deck is balsa cored on the flats and foam on the sides. Also I've made the hull to deck a one piece unite now. I still have all of the core samples I pulled to install fittings.

did choate build the boat or WD schock?

It was built by choate before the merger.

the method of attachtment of the keel. is it direct to the hull or is there a stubby keel

There is about 2" of a stubby keel which I glassed over the joint 12 years ago after it sat on the hard all winter. It's alsoo held on with 7 or 8 1" bolts, which are either a very high grade of SS or Monel. A strong magnet hardly has any effect.

thanks

Re: I'm Sell'n the Ugly Duckling

Ouch.
I know the feeling, sold my boat 1 1/2 years ago after having put blood sweat and tears into it.
It was a sad day when the buyer handed me the check, but with my domestic situation the boat was not used much anymore.
Probably will get another one after I retire, can you hold off a few years, I will pick it up then..

My boat is on the hard in the Sea of Cortez to the tune of $110@month. There's people who actually live on their boats in the yard during the hurricane season. They pay $5 a day to stay there. In the sailing season, if you stay on the hook, you can live for $500-$750@month.
So if it were I, Del old boy, I would give it a shot for one season. I made tons of like minded friends. I'm just sayin...
I would rather hear he did this.

So sorry to hear you are selling the Choate. You have been an inspiration to me. Life is sometimes cruel and you gotta do what you gotta do. I hope it works out for you.

Re: I'm Sell'n the Ugly Duckling

Thanks guys for all the support. It was fun though. I didn't really get it totally finish with solar panels but it's cruise-able with the 1000W generator.

Just to add I just installed (2) new Interstate Deep Cell 12V 600 CCA & (1) 12V 550 CCA up forward for the windlass.

And, I forgot to mention in the tool a hydraulic crimper for large cables an a hand crimper for the smaller stuff. Plus all the tools on board for offshore support.

Re: I'm Sell'n the Ugly Duckling

I thought I would give you all the first shot at it but it looks like I'm not having any luck here, so it's going in the adds.

This vessel is pretty much ready to go cruising. All the fluids were just changed in the motor/tranny. It even has new bottom paint on her. Two coats of Trinidad SR...............~~_/)

Re: I'm Sell'n the Ugly Duckling

I thought I'd add a few more pictures. And BTW the motor batteries, and the windlass battery up forward, were just replaced.
