Furuno Warranty

Has anyone tried to get in touch with Fountaine-Pajot during this month of August?, all my e-mails bounce back. I know about French vacations but this is ridiculous from a big company. All my Furuno instruments have gone on strike and I am sailing blind and short-handed (no auto-pilot). Furuno USA says it is Furuno FR. coverage and they in turn say it is Fountaine-Pajot responsibility.
I love the boat but dealing with foreign companies is a real pain.
Anyone has a link to FP?

Re: Furuno warranty

All instruments going out at the same time is more likely related to an electrical or installation issue on the boat rather than internal faults. I assume you have checked these already?

Re: Furuno warranty

Furuno USA also tells me it is an installation fault, apparently according to him FP does not use the Furuno links for the instruments and they seem to have problems with this.

The Furuno USA installer came yesterday and found that the way that FP or Pochon installed the instruments was creating 60 ohms of resistance, way over the 16 allowed. The way they make the connections is quite different from the Furuno recommendations, The Furuno's T connectors are not used and this causes the resistance.
Furuno will be back next week to re-wire the instruments.
Hope it works.

Re: Furuno Warranty

Furuno installation issues, in our experience, are very common with FP. It is hard to understand why.
The warranty becomes an issue. Tedious but there we are.

I tell you what it is, from personal experience.
They are pig headed and don't respond to customer's complaint.
They say "that's how we do it, you are the only one with this problem" and similar phrases.

They will make you wait and wait because most people get fed up and give up on smaller claims.

If you insist, eventually the keep their warranty promise, but they do not change their production/assembly methods as they still think they know everything.

Example: all(?? the ones I have seen at least) their cats suffer the same problem with the rudder stock/ steering arm assembly that comes loose, a simple problem to resolve at construction time, but relatively more difficult to correct later.
For several years they have been told by a service team I know; they will pay for the modifications, but will not change their production system.
Now tell me if that makes sense!

A number of production builders have a standard wire gauge feeding the electronics, when the owner orders the whole package one usually finds that the power supply wire # does not get upped to the correct size, and you get these kinds of issues. I would suggest running a new heavy gauge feed from the breaker.

Re: Furuno Warranty

The Furuno dealer here, Precision Marine has rewired everything now they need to change all the instruments since the resistance in the previous wiring caused all the instruments to fry. It is hard to understand why a company like Fountaine-Pajot or the subcontractor installing the instruments would not do it right from the start. It is bad economics.

I suspect a different problem than the wiring, or someone taking you for a ride for new instruments.
