Unstable gps signal.

Ver. 5,2 win 10 gps puck s4 model plus alternate to test.

Heading line is unstable port to stbd, jumps, and also heading line vanishes, boat turns to port then line comes back and the whole dance starts again.
Tried different puck, same issue, talked to a friend has same eqp't, same problem.

Re: Unstable gps signal.

Something odd going on, the status bar at the bottom of your first screenshot show COG=275 and SOG=15.4 knots, but the NMEA debug (paused, so not time synced) shows COG=269 and SOG=7.13. Presuming you didn't change speeds that much in the time it took to screenshot then the data coming in looks not good.

Can you post a longer sample from NMEA Debug? And not as a picture but is text? To do that, pause the Debug window, then you can select the text, then paste it in a post here using the QUOTE tags (rightmost button in the simple editor). Brownie points if you change the word "QUOTE" at both ends to "CODE" as it provides a better transfer of the data.

Re: Unstable gps signal.

Before I do my next sea trial, I have a query on the autopilot settings for output.
Help file shows the output as Network with an assigned address of 127.00.0 etc.
When I start to set this up myself the address fills in automatically, as 0's , do I change that to the 127 etc ?

Re: Unstable gps signal.

This depends entirely on how the AP is connected. If it is a standard serial NMEA 0183 device then you’ll have to change the port to serial and make the configuration from there.

If it is a network connected AP then you’ll have to output to the network on OpenCPN and tell the AP where to find it on the network. The default 127.0.0.1 address is the “loopback address” - it is a way of saying “on this same computer”. There are far too many options for how a network could be configured, need more info. What brand/model of AP?

Re: Unstable gps signal.

Yes it should be serial, for 0183 which the ap is (comnav). will set up accordingly.

Many thanks for the response.

Re: Unstable gps signal.

So, everything seems to be working and reasonable stable, here is a print out of the gps stuff, a few dropped sentences even though I did specify the only ones to receive etc.
