New download crashing

Hello,

Im new to this... I have looked pretty hard on the forum and I could not find the similar issues i am having...

I have MacOs X El Capitan 10.11.06

I have successfully downloaded the newest version of OpenCPN and it is saved with a colourful icon in the applications folder.

When I try to open it i get this message:
The last Opencpn run seems to have failed. do you want to run in safe mode without plugins and other possibly problematic features?

Yes or No

I select No and then the chart screen opens up, but only for a moment. Then it closes and I get a message that says opencpn has unexpectedly shut down.

Does anyone have a suggestion or can see if I am missing a step?

Current OpenCPN does not work on macOS 10,11, it simply is too old. As the download page says, OpenCPN 5.8.4 requires macOS 11 or newer. And that information is correct.

Unless you are able to update your machine to at least 10.13, on which the current development builds will run, we are sorry, but current OpenCPN is not for you.

You may still find the very old versions that should work for you at https://github.com/OpenCPN/OpenCPN/releases
