Just to the right of the Toolbox icon is the Show ENC Text icon(A+). Click once, the text shows, click again, all the text disappears.
Hi there - I also had this problem, but the Show ENC Text button does not change anything. There is still no text. Does anyone have any other suggestions? So far I have only been places where I'm pretty clear on the geography so it's not been a major issue, but next leg is a little off-piste so need a bit more info!

Any help appreciated.

OpenCPN Australian East Coast Users

Hi guys,

I am eager to install OpenCPN on my eMachines notebook. After doing a lot of reading on the forum I have determined that there are no free charts for Australia unlike the USA.

I would like to ask the other Aussie Open CPN users how they have gone about the installation and sourcing the charts? I have not purchased a GPS for my notebook as yet pending a reply.

I would appreciate any suggestions that you have.

I anticipate that a question like this has been asked in the past but I could not find it in my searches so please feel free to direct me to an earlier post.

Thanks,
Steve

Re: Help / FAQ

Steve, You need to download the charts which are all included as a world package called CM93. There is a version called CM92 - 08 or something similar which was supposedly the 2008 updated version. Australia is included in all versions.

The Open CPN guys are not going to point you in the direction of copied charts for obvious reasons. You need to simply google "CM93", click on the one with 2008 or 08, download and then install.

If that is not helpful, send me a PM and we will take it from there.

Re: Help / FAQ

Sorry, I meant CM93 - 08. Not CM92 anywhere.

Grab Marco's NZ chartset, lots of them are for the Pacific Ocean in general and would at least give you a coastal planning map.

MCE66 - Software

I've got them repackaged into a more accessible .zip file version with night color rules edited into them if you want.

Re: Help / FAQ

I found a couple of CDs that are labeled Explorer charts of Bahamas, but OpenCPN doesn't display them. They have a folder entitled CHARTHDR with files with names like MEXUM1S0.HDR and many other folders with names like Mexum1s0 containing files such as Mexum1S0.A01. Any idea what kind of charts these are and if they can be converted to a form OpenCPN can display?

I think they were sold thru Map Quest and need their software to run them.

OpenCPN cannot read hdr charts directly. It is, however possible to convert these charts to bsb charts that can be used. There are instructions in the OpenCPN Wiki. It is a bit of a learning curve and quite a bit of work, if you choose this path....

Re: How to get OCPN to recognize GE plugin?

I'm sure this has been asked many times but I'm not finding it in a quick look. We've downloaded the GE plugin, installed the GE application, run the app to make sure everything is working, put the plugin in the plugins folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenCPN\plugins) but OCPN refuses to recognize it. Open the toolbox, go to the plugins tab (so we can activate it) but the GE plugin isn't even mentioned. We're running 2.5.0 on Win7 64-bit. The log file shows OCPN initializing (& later, shutting down) the Dashboard & GRIB plugins, but doesn't even mention Google Earth. Why not?

Anyone have any ideas? What additional data is needed? Are any mystical incantations needed? TIA!

Re: Help / FAQ

John-

What version of GE are you running? The newest version (6.2 and above) turned off support for certain APIs, but I'm not certain if the plugin requires this. You can either wait for folks who know the plugin better to chime in or if you are running GE 6.2 or newer, try the link below and install 6.1 instead to see if that helps.

Link for GE 6.1
