Gshhs High Resolution background map - copy to installation folder no longer working?

Thank you very much, nohal. I'm sorry we got off on the wrong foot, but that's very helpful.

The high resolution catalogue contains 15 files, and the crude resolution basemap in the installation package only 3 - "poly", "borders" and "rivers" with "-c-1" or "_c" in the filename.

I thought that perhaps you might've hardwired OpenCPN might to read only those three files in the Contents/SharedSupport/gshhs/ directory, and it might now ignore the _f, _h versions of the file.

It's late here so I'm going to bed. I'll try with the newer versions tomorrow. I do appreciate your patience.

The last time I checked I was working on something else and this particular thing was closed several years ago, so no, I would probably not call having to get back to it interesting. But keep them coming, there sure are things in OpenCPN that do need improvements, just not this particular one.

For the benefit of anyone else finding this thread, simply copying over the new GSHHG files from the GitHub link given above into the directory works perfectly. Without looking closely, I assume the file format may have changed (although I didn't check the filenames before deleting the old ones either).

I'm not saying this is the right way to do it - and I will look at doing it the right way next time I upgrade - but it does work.

The .tar.xz archives in the GitHub all contain Mac OS X resource forks - if you unpack them (say on a Linux system) you will see

The files beginning with ._ are these, and they can safely be deleted.
