From the video I take the first thing is to grab that pillow.

The impact/damage: IMHO the actual damage will vary ... and in open water, with vigorous wave action and an obstinate, sharp-edged object ... But that's many factors at once and, touch wood, will happen to few.

Rethinking, I see the access (from the inside) to be of paramount importance. Also, notice they hammered the locker side wall open. If it were complete ... So I think all the water traps and watertight bulkheads are great design features.

Now off to watch the dismasting and the wrong tie video.
