Simrad Gofree

Anyone using the Simrad Gofree system?

I am particularly interested whether people have made it work with a normal wifi router.

I have been delighted with my two Zeus plotters this year, totally. But I often like to keep watch from under the sprayhood. I take my IPad with INavX on it, and the other instruments are visible from there. It would be so much better if I could also see radar, AIS, and navigation data. I could have it simply with Gofree, but I didn't set it up last winter because I just ran out of time.

Now I'm getting ready to get back to finishing my electronics and interested in hearing if anyone has tackled this particular
job.

I have been using the GoFree system the last few months with no problems at all. The system works very well and with no noticeable lag on my Nexus 10 tablet. I have it installed with the GoFree router.

This system is with a Simrad NSS8. I am also sending data via wifi to a nav station pc running OpenCPN. This way I can also see wind, speed and depth in OpenCPN dashboard.

I only wish there was a program that could run on the pc which duplicated the Android app.

Totally agree, I wish there was a Mac/Pc GoFree app.

Bluestack Andriod Emulator does work if you have a fast Windows machine. I run the Raymarine program on my Windows 8 tablet, but it can lag at times.

GoFree is working fine with normal router. I have my Zeus T8 connected to a MOFI 3500 router and control it with my 10.1 Samsung Tab2.

I don't have a radar on my system. I have read somewhere that a special setting has to be turned on or off to prevent the radar to broadcast its data on the Wifi and overload it.
