PYPilot as a stand alone autopilot

I need to replace the electronics of my Alpha 4404 autopilot. Pypilot seems like a good solution and an incredibly good value. I bought Sean's tinypilot computer and controller.
But, all the info I've seen on installing it has been in conjunction with OpenCPN.
Most of the info seems to be about programming and is way over my head.
So, as a stand alone installation, will it display over wifi to a tablet or laptop or do I need to have the little screen accessible all the time?
Can anyone direct me to examples?

Re: PYPilot as a stand alone autopilot

Having your only way of input being WiFi seems like it might not be the best idea.

Re: PYPilot as a stand alone autopilot

There is still a remote to control it if wifi goes down.
If you are familiar with the TinyPilot computer you will know it has a small screen. My best location for that is awkward to look at while sailing or motoring.
I think it typically displays on the OpenCPN system but I don't want to install OpenCPN at this time.
