Just to be Clear, it's a virus in JAVA not mac os and the java implementation affected is off by default in Mac OS.


What's the mac v windows virus record now?

The simple fix for this is to uninstall Java. Who needs that crap now html 5 is so widely used anyhow.

Attacking Java is blasphemy because of many historical reasons but here you have it, it's been done. No problem for Macs though, as Apple has used their light side force to bring us HTML5

Just about all enterprise software is written in Java or .net (mostly java). Java isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Java is in the coffin, which just hasn't been nailed shut yet. Java is going the way of FORTRAN.

and replace it with what? We can't find enough programmers to even fill the java jobs we have open let alone python, scala, or [pick your 5th gen language].

So, even if a better language emerges, there simply isn't enough programmers available to support enterprise dev at the price point most enterprises are happy paying day-in-and-day-out. Sure, facebook and google don't have trouble attracting this talent but would that same programmers go to work at a small insurance company in the mid-west? No way.

Also, JAVA is a known entity to most program managers. They understand how it works, how much it costs to develop, and what it is capable of. No one gets fired for recommending java as a development language.

To make matter worse... most 5g languages are written in a 2nd gen language. Forget about the kids coming out of college these days with so-called programming skills. Most can't spell p-r-o-g-r-a-m let alone actually program well since they have been taught to build apps using lego bricks.

My first professional job was as a FORTRAN programmer and, in those days, no one ever got fired for recommending FORTRAN as a development language.

Yes, Mac OS has security issues but the vast majority of security issues come from inside the businesses you do business with. Or when people leave laptops in cars, or whatever.

If you follow some simple rules... #1 being don't click on ANY links that come in through e-mail your chances of actually getting a virus are negligible. I have maybe had 2 viruses over my 30 years working with computers and I know 100% it was my own fault getting tricked into clicking on a link I should not have.

FORTRAN programmers - don't sell yourselves short. We have several positions open paying above $150/hr.
