I can't help you with why your HDM sentence is not accepted but here is a sample that OpenCpn does accept, perhaps it will help a bit. I don't know which one it uses!


$IIHDM,163,M*38
$IIVHW,,T,163,M,00.00,N,00.00,K*61


It may also need a GPS location to work the magnetic to true conversion.....
