Time to travel up the tomtenn

Hi
I’m currently hauled out at Green Cove Springs, FL. I was going to get home (Toronto) through the ICW/ Hudson/Erie Canal but it now looks like the Erie Canal won’t be completely open until August 10th rather than July 4th. Does anyone know how much longer it would take to go through Florida to the gulf side then up the TomTenn / Mississippi back? I’m in a trawler that does about 6.5 knots.
Thanks
Peter

Try https://www.trawlerforum.com/forums/ which is a Sister Site to this forum. Far more people who've done the Great Loop over there. The Great Loop isn't as popular with sailors.

The big issue is the Mississippi. Depending on the water release your speed over ground could be zero.

Champlain Canal isn't open yet either and the Seaway locks aren't handling pleasure craft, so no way from there to Lake Ontario anyway.

Re: Time to travel up the tomtenn

You can go online and get water height info or info on contacting lock keepers who will give you water height info. It depends on rainfall and water heights in the springtime, sometimes making the river system impassable for smaller boats until the water levels and currents subside. I would think it’s a bit early right now but you still need to get there from your present location so it may be fine by the time you get to Mobile. You should really enjoy the trip
