Ship station licence, a question of privacy or not?

Through websites like vesselfinder.com and of the ITU, certain details on vessels and ship station licences are made publically available.

Ship station licence issued in certain countries show besides the obvious information also names of owners and other details. Station licences issued in other countries, only basic information such as the vessels name, callsign, MMSI nr, etc.

How important, if at all, is it that such information is made publically available?

Or should such information not be published publically?

Re: Ship station licence, a question of privacy or not?

Of-course it is public. Owning and operating a boat or ship with a station license comes with responsibilities and in case of trouble, others need to be able to identify you. Exactly this is the reason that I don't like it that for example US citizens can get their operators license and thus their station license by just paying a dollar amount; no training nor exam required. This does not improve safety and the wrong use of their radios is very noticeable and sometimes even shocking.

Re: Ship station licence, a question of privacy or not?

Not all ship station licence information is made public, at least in the EU. Some countries are very generous in making data in a ship station licence available, whereas for example in the Netherlands the data is not made publically available at all, due to the strict privacy laws.

Therefore my question if it is considered as ‘valuable’ to have you ships station licence information made publically available or not
