Made it home, no problems

Hurrah ! Got the boat safely home all in one piece, no leaks, few squeaks, no problems except a long day of motoring and fighting the currents.

It really was a great trip. The diesel ran flawlessly, moving us at an average of 6.3 knots through the water. I don't have a tach so I'm unsure of RPM's, but it felt like 75-80% of full throttle ? She still has some more oomph, I just never used it. Theoretical hull speed is 6.7, so it seemed fine.

The rudder question I had. So, under power there is a definite pull to the left that increases with speed. It's not overbearing. I would liken it to a car that had bad alignment. If you let go of the wheel she is headed to port ! What we did for comfort was to tighten down the wheel clamp and we were able just tweak the course as needed without having to hold the wheel continuously. The wheel pilot unfortunately does not work, I believe the clutch is bad. Fixable, but I may just plan ahead for an under-deck unit attached to the quadrant.

Tides were not our friend, especially when we hit the St. John's with it's almost 3 knots of outgoing flow. That added time to the trip for sure, but it was fine too really. You don't buy a sailboat for the speed. We had plenty of time to sight-see, and we hadn't been that way in a long time.

Didn't get to sail really. Rolled out the jib twice, but not enough wind to matter. Felt good though, Lol ! I'll be putting together a vid this week for anyone following.

All in all, a fun trip, but we were glad to pull into our slip !

Sorry, I just figured those who kinda knew me from here had been following along. Didn't think about someone new. My bad !


So yeah, its a 1980 Endeavour 32 we just bought. We did some work, got her splashed, brought her home. It's all on our YouTube channel, FWIW. We are trying to make a series of videos for those on smaller budgets.

Thanks ! Just posted the video of the trip. It was a long day motoring but we had fun. Now we just need some decent weather to take her out for a real sail !

Thrilled for you and your wife. Glad you two enjoyed the trip back to your boat's new home port. You both look very happy on your video.
