Dumb Question Time

Okay, Dad said there is no such thing as a dumb question except the one that goes unasked.

I have been looking at boats online and to date my favorite is the mid-1980s Catalina 36. As I am looking through the pics I see the dinette table that has a small compartment in it. What is that compartment for?

Small comparment salt and pepper. big compartment beer and wine

I've seen galley tables that had inserts where you can keep silverware, condiments or whatever depending on the size of the compartment. When the table is folded up and/or the boat is underway, the stuff is in a secure spot. Handy!

My old table and a large center compartment in it. I miss it a lot.
