Top load vs front load fridge

I recently looked at a 2006 Hunter 36 and both the fridge and freezer were front mounted and looked like what you might call "dorm fridges".

Whats the downside of this type of unit? Is it that the cold air can escape more easily when the front door is open vs a top lid?

Re: Top load vs front load fridge

Yes in theory. In reality, I found not a lot of difference in in cooling on my Catamaran "dorm fridge style" and my small top loaders on the monos. BUT, the front opening did ice up faster and require defrosting more.

My favorite were my mono's with top and front doors for access.
