SOLAS A/SOLAS B

I have been doing a little reading into SOLAS A and SOLAS B pack liferafts (not debating having/not having a liferaft. We WILL have one). Having read this:

I am struggling to differentiate what differences are between A and B. Seems that there is a high standard and same gear in them as a minimum requirement.



Any help for my ignorance please?

That reference only sets out specifications for the various items included in SOLAS A or B packs, it doesn't specify which items are required for A as opposed to B packs.


Many of the items listed are not required for SOLAS B.

SOLAS A packs have, in addition to SOLAS B requirements:
Extra flares, water, food, fishing line, can opener

Thanks for that. I kind of figured it was something like that. We will have extra items in grab bag anyway.
