Flying with Liferaft (and cartridge)

I need to transport a liferaft to Ecuador.

My understanding is that if i mail it it will get stuck in customs for months.

I'd like to fly with it but airline baggage guidelines state compressed gas canisters are not allowed.

Any thoughts?

See if you can arrange it in advance with the airline.

One time, we wanted to bring SOSpenders back to the boat. They let us take them after putting the inflation canisters in the trash. But we had not realized that it might have been different with prior arrangement. Don't try to smuggle them.

Yep, ask the airline. Or alternately, see if it might be possible to buy new gas cylinders at your destination.
