Five Rescued via Signal Mirror

5 fishermen adrift in a skiff used a signal mirror and were spotted by a USN C-130 crew. Signal mirror = small, require no batteries, easy to use.

Re: Five Rescued via Signal Mirror

I saw another article on this today...seems that the flash that caught the aircrew's attention was not from a signal mirror per se, but rather a soda can the family used to try and make a reflection.
I'm glad it worked...for their sake.
I guess the lessons learned are:
- Carry good gear
- Use what you have, and Never NEVER give up

Re: Five Rescued via Signal Mirror

I remember learning to use a signal mirror in the Boy Scouts. I don't know what the current doctrine is, but they taught us to aim it by putting your finger under the airplane, boat, whatever, when looking at it in the sky, horizon, etc. and then keep lighting up the tip of you finger with the mirror and the reflected sun.
