Re: CNN Report - Rogue Waves
The CNN "expert" defined a rogue wave as being twice the height of the average wave. That's simply the result you'll find in the normal distribution of wave heights within the wave spectrum (a Raleigh distribution). There's nothing "rogue" about it; it's an everyday occurence.

Re: CNN Report - Rogue Waves
CNN should be embarrassed. This report is epitomizes why I abandoned TV viewing over 15 years ago. Pure idiocy. Wrong on just about every count.
The only reason they did this "story" was b/c the producers thought it would scare their viewers. What passes for "news" is mostly packaged fear.
Utter crap.

Evidence would indicate the 24 hour news channels have no shame. I agree they do more harm than good and should be avoided at all costs. Studies show the people who watch them know less about current events than people who get news from any other source.

Re: CNN Report - Rogue Waves
What you nasty, unruly detractors of academic discussion have missed was the seriously profound, and intelligent facial responses by the female journalist to her mentors presentation. This woman was not only truly moved by this academic adventure into the water world but will be forever changed in both her awareness of the sea and the world in which she lives. We must accept that our only salvation in our eroding Civilizations are these very same beacons of light who will guide us into the 21st Century and beyond. In profound respect, Captain Rognvald the Watcher . . . Ave, verum corpus . . .

Not really...A bimbo like that learns how to act and the whole bizarre thing is scripted. She just acts as if she cares and intelligent, which she is neither. You can observe her reading off a script. More sensationalism. It sells toothpaste.

It has been studied to death and has long been known that the human species over react very strongly towards fear. Governments rely on it as do religions to control the masses. Why would you not expect it in so called news these days?

Re: CNN Report - Rogue Waves
Most days there is simply not 24 hours worth of news. Have you watched ESPN recently or listened to sports radio trying to come up with 24 hours worth of sports?
But the thing is we want them live when the news does break. Fastest counts, not accuracy, it seems.

Re: CNN Report - Rogue Waves
The shrinking dollar. The shrinking poles(places not people). The expanding crime wave. The killer tomatoes. Playing tiddlywinks could make you blind. The homeless will join together and throw you out of your homes. Petrol prices to soar. Anything that you like will give you cancer according to recent studies by 11 year old Aardvarks. Clouds are getting heavier and will fall from the sky one day, thus rendering you impotent.
Have not seen or read the news for nearly twenty years, because it annoyed the hell out of me, but I bet some of those, or something similar, were in last night's.
Oh, some celebrity forgot her knickers and felt so bad that she had to drive drunk to get over it.
Coops.

Au contraire! Even when confined only to major events there is more than enough news to fill a 24 hr cycle. Yet these stories are avoided. Many are the reasons why these stories are avoided probably because it pays to keep the people uninformed. Too, the real news requires investigation and research. Perhaps the so-called news agencies are too lazy to practice that.
It is not fair to compare ESPN or a sports channel with the news channels. Largely this is because ESPN is specific to sports whereas the 'news channels' are, or should be, concerned with all news.

She is simply a mirror for the society she operates in.
"rogue wave " is the excuse for being unprepared, whether though ignorance or wishful thinking.
