Canadian looking for emergency medical insurance

My husband and I plan to leave Canada in the fall, buy a boat in Florida/Eastern US and sail the Caribbean for a few years. We are both healthy and under 60!

We plan to 'self insure' for bumps & bruises but are looking for Transportation to the nearest centre of medical excellencecoverage in case of serious injury/illness.

I have looked at RSA, and TIC insurance.

I would appreciate any suggestions/advice/referrals. Thank you!

We are also Canadians and have been cruising for 8 years. We've been using RSA for 6 years after we were no longer eligible to be on the Canadian health care system. They have paid all our claims promptly. We found that the premium difference was not worth self insuring for minor items and have no deductible.

Thanks for your comments. Based on research it looks like we will be covered by OHIP for the first two years so will do a combination of OHIP and travel insurance, and then bump up to Expat insurance, looks like you did the same thing.
I hope you've had 8 great years of cruising... we will be leaving in November for Caribbean for a few years, and then, who knows!

Its been a few years but I had good service from Blue Cross for my travel insurance. When I dropped an alternator on my big toe and had to fly home from Belize they were very accommodating. I will use them on my future trips.
