Standard Horizon VHF/GPS...too many models?

You can get a GPS plotter as low as $125 and a good VHF for about the same. I'd do that personally.
Something like this, I've seen these go that low.

Pampasail ...... Have you made a decision on your radio/gps?
If you haven't and are looking at the $125 example on e-bay/Craig's list just know it is likely discontinued by manufacturer therefore "current" chart updates are not available.

On a positive note, even a older gps can give lat/lons for DSC as long as you can interface with the radio.

Most of us have several GPS/Chartplotters (older versions) as "backup" knowing updatable is unlikely.
