Rotating Chart Plotter Image

I have a Ray Marine E80 chart plotter. I was recently on the boat and the chart plotter would not hold it's orientation. It would rotate back and forth on the screen. It would not loose its GPS location. The next day I recalibrated
the autopilot and it did fine but the next day it was back to not working well.
The problems are 1. autohelm heading (displayed on unit) is not correct and sometimes appears stuck on one number 2. the chart plotter orientation shifts 3. autopilot does not work (i.e. hold the correct course).
My diagnosis is something wrong with the heading sensor or communication with the heading sensor. I do not know where to go from here and/or if it is a good idea.
