But I haven't yet tried it with MOB.
At $800 you may as well go a little further with something that is ruggedized and waterproof, autofocusing. No zoom, though.

Compare the IR resolutions and the frame rates (frequencies) of both. Also, once the frame rate is above 9 Hz, you have to start justifying your purchase to authorities and it won't be exported (out of the US).

Re: Night sailing - thermal cam for android ?

The more u spend on a thermal imager the happier u will be. They can't see through glass ! They have a hard time with heavy foliage. Anything in the water that's the same temperature will be invisible. If you want to see people through solid walls then you'll need to spend tens of thousands of dollars ! The only way to find out is borrow or buy one and try it out. I like mine cuz of other reasons. Like how it shows in picture mode all the temperatures in colour when pointing it at my breaker panel with the cover off or checking for hot spots on my engine with a glance at the image.

Yeah, I was thinking of an HTI HT-301 too.

HTI is made in Guangdong, China.
It has a 25 Hz frame rate.
So, the 9 Hz out of US may not apply ?

Re: Night sailing - thermal cam for android ?

A smaller HT-A2 is 9 Hz.
Of course, cheaper.

Maybe a better solution, as it doesn't require to connect to a phone and start-up an app, and as there are no sensitive connections, mechanically more solid.

Correct.
For comparison, there are also these:

Again, here the options with higher frame rates won't be readily exported from Korea.
Higher frame rates improve the imaging and so increase the cost.

I also use mine in medical contexts (screening).

WhiteHill, any samples of use ?
At sea we need all, that can help in an emergency.

Re: Night sailing - thermal cam for android ?

As long as the temperature difference is the same, I think that picture frequency has the most influence of the price, and not on the function (to find heat).
Pixels is more important. Right ?
