Help for the Clueless . . .

I am not a sailor. I know little of navigation...which is what brings me here. I once saw some sort of navigational 'atlas' that my husband fell in love with. I want to get him one for xmas, but I don't know what it would be called or where to find it! This was a series of nearshore maps laminated and bound like an atlas, showing harbors, water depths, shoreline, etc. specifically in relation to Lake Superior (present day- not historical). Does anyone know what this is called and where I can find one? I'm having a hard time finding such a thing, even with google. It was an actual atlas-like book, not a single chart or map.

Excuse my extreme ignorance on the subject, but if I find him this elusive thing, I will be my husband's hero!

Maybe a chartbook, something like this.

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, EmilyP.

It sounds a though you mau be referring to a "Cruising Guide"; such as "Superior Way" by Bonnie Dahl.

Lake Superior Collection - Bonnie Dahl's Superior Way: Fourth Edition

Or "Richardson's" as Vasco notes:

THANKS

Thanks so much for the input. Both resources look like what I need! One more ignorant question-- do either the Richardsons or Bonnie Dahl resources show water depth? I would assume so, but I'm going in blind here...

Thanks again for helping me out. I admit I'm humbled by these simple questions I must ask!

Fret not, Emily . . . simple questions receive simple answers, and since the answers you received are appropriate and filled with valuable information, your questions are great questons!

Richardsons does show depths but I'm not familiar with Bonnie Dahl.

Good luck!

You assume correctly; both have appropriate depth indications.
