Working Load of Chain

Ive just spent the good part of a day trying to figure how how much working load the chain needs to be for my boat....

The winch is set up for 3/8.

Its a 36' catamaran, 22' beam, slightly wider than average cruising hulls (2001 Fortuna Island Spirit), 14,500lbs...

The marine supply recommended galvanized chain mwl 1600kg (3520 lbs).... From everything I read this should be more than sufficient for general conditions. Any named storms the boat will be on hard or in the marina.

Can someone confirm this is ok? I hope so because the crew already has it and is on their way back here as we ran out of time and had to make a decision...

Re: Working load of chain

It's fine. Any 3/8" quality chain that fits your gypsy will work well for you. We use 5/16" G4 on our similar sized catamaran.

Thanks! A bit of relief there.. 2012 is turning out to be a good year so far.. (after a horrid 2011 and an insurance nightmare.. oh yeah.. need to go post about that now....)
