Riding up on mooring buoy.

Can someone explain why my boat rides up on the mooring buoy when moored? The boat has a full keel. Do opposing wind and tide have anything to do with it? What can be done to prevent it?

Re: Riding up on mooring buoy.

Opposing wind and tide have everything to do with it.
If it's the wind pushing you from astern you can try dropping a large bucket off the stern in hopes that the increased drag will help the tide pull you away from the mooring ball.

Re: Riding up on mooring buoy.

What we do to try to deal with this when we have to be on a mooring, is to hoist the buoy right up out of the water. If you cand do that, you have less noise. I'd rather anchor: I trust our tackle, but sometmes life is better if you pick up a mooring.
