Re: Re-galvanizing anchor chain

Spoke to their service manager in Texas. As of now they are still costing chain at this location.

None of the Valmont locations are so this may be the only shop in FL that is. Given the trend toward ceasing this service I'd recommend everyone patronize them to keep the facility open and working on chain.

Re: Re-galvanizing anchor chain

FYI Just spoke to commonwealthgalv.com

And they still galvanise chain, we have about 700 lbs of chain I think. (350kg) and the quote over the phone to dip clean and then coat was $420.

Which seems pretty good and darn sight cheaper than new.

Just need to work out how to get it to them now

Re: Re-galvanizing anchor chain

I had some 3/8" BBB re-galvanized some years ago at a place in Oakland CA. They did a not so good job. I am not sure what went wrong, but some of the link stuck together. I didn't notice this right away. When I did notice it and tried to pull apart the stuck links the galvanizing came off one of the links leaving bare steel. By this time I was not in a position to take the chain back to have it redone.

Take care and the best of luck...

Re: Re-galvanizing anchor chain

Commonwealth Galvanizing in Ashland, Virginia is the galvanizer we use for our new Super MAX anchors. We also take used anchors (in need of re-galvanizing) and chains for re-galvanized to them for our customers. We have never been disappointed and, as far as I know, neither have been our customers. Hint: try to get over 900 lbs for re-galvanizing (talk to your friends). You might be surprised at the price at that weight.

It is my understanding that they no longer do chain

They quoted me for chain 2 weeks ago. And I double checked that they still did chain. Said they did, so fingers crossed, just working out how to get it to them now.
