Ideal Windlass Shaft Repair

I have an ideal windlass with the rope capstan and chain gypsy. The shaft is bent producing a wobble. The wobble is enough that the gypsy binds the chain. Can the shaft be replaced with a DIY or is this a factory job.

Thanks

Re: Ideal Windlass Shaft Repair

If the shaft is not too badly bent any reasonable machine shop should be able to straiten it to within a few thou.

Re: Ideal Windlass Shaft Repair

I found the guys at Ideal to be extremely helpful when I called them with questions about my windlass when we got our current boat. I ended up having them do some work on it, but I felt like their advice was on target even when I was considering having the local yard do it. If you give them a call, they'll probably give you a pretty fair assessment of what's entailed.

Thank you. I will give Ideal a call and check with the local shops.
