How do I setup a Delta anchor so that when its hooked I can pull it backwards? I"be already friend the hooking towards the front and tie wraps at the proximal end but everytime you weigh anchor the tie wraps snap.

Re: Anchor setup

Captj13, hi and welcome to CF.

I think the traditional method is to use a separate tripping line. I am not convinced about attaching the chain to the back of the anchor and then using a weak link to the front.

My chain is just attached to the end of the shank. Afterall it is not as if they are made of gold like some of the more modern ones judging by the price, oh and the way the shanks bend

Re: Anchor setup

There is a hole in the head for a float but those are a nuisance.
It's best to just pull up as much rode as possible until the vessel it directly over the anchor and that will lift the shank pulling the nose out of the ground and then aweigh the anchor. If it's still stuck then one can motor forward a bit. Stay away from rocky bottoms.

It's the weight of the chain that keeps the shank horizontal the ground. No chain, no stick.
