Re: Advice wanted: Galvanizing Anchor Chain

The last time I removed my chain for galvanising I parked the dingy underneath the bow and ran it into the dingy with the anchor winch then motored over to a boat ramp and had the gal guy back his pickup down the ramp and we pulled it up out of the dingy ovrhand, reversed the process to put it back on the boat, piece of cake.

Re: Advice wanted: Galvanizing Anchor Chain

I tried to get 3 anchors regalvanized in NYC region. It was quite expensive. New chain delivered is likely about (depending on the size) $3+ / ft. It's probably worth it and will last 15 years before it rusts and needs replacement... I wouldn't waste the time in re galvanizing.... with unable results and lots of time wasted... and lost unless you do it in the winter.

Sadly, your estimate of 15 years life for galvanizing on c hain is far from accurate for folks who live at anchor. We have found 2 to 3 years, depending on the type of bottoms anchored encountered... makes the time and trouble quite worthwhile iMO.
