Main sheet twist between the traveller and the boom

When I rig the main sheet in the spring the sheet is fine but as the season progresses the sheet twists itself on the vertical portion between the traveller and the boom. To resolve the issue, I have to remove the sheet and untwist accumulated twist. Is there any way to prevent this from occurring in the first place? Thanks for all your input!

Re: Main sheet we tween the traveller and the boom

If you trim it with a winch, that will induce a twist that eventually travels up along the rope.
Nothing to do but unreeve and untwist from time to time, if you can't dispense with the winch.
If you don't have a winch already, it may be that the rope had residual twist from being unspooled wrong initially. If you've baked it in by heaving hard on the line under tension it may never come out, as some strands may have been pulled harder than others and settled in that way.

This. Also if you coil the sheet when it is not in use, you are again putting twist in it. You should shake out the twists and flake the running part when prepping your lines.

Check if the top block has a position lock ,to stop the top block from rotating and twisting the sheet ,commonly done on free rotating blocks ⛵️⚓️

If you take all the twist out the sheet, and don't coil it like everyone keeps doing in a beautiful circle, but rather coil / flake it in figure 8, it doesn't happen. The moment you start flaking the line in a circle, you introduce a twist, and that twist is never taken out fully before the line is fed into the sheeting system. The result is the twist travels down line and eventually ends up twisting the blocks.

Mine does the same thing. I use double braid sheet a three part block and tackle. No winch but do run it though a cam lock. I have re rove it left to right and right to left and-it still gets a twist. It doesn’t seem to really hurt any thing but I don’t like it. If I take the block off the sail and flip it down though the falls I can get most of the twist out. There will always be a half twist left. I have never totally figured it out.

Reeve the fall with a half twist.
If the fall goes full twist reeve again with the opposite crossover..

Modify / change the block to a non-rotating block so it can't twist

I do not know anyone that sheets in or trims a mail sail with a winch.
A Camcleat is usually the way a main sheet is trimmed on a traveler.
The twist may be rectified with swivel block, at the boom end.

Mainsheet to a winch is very common with cabin-top travelers.

Not very efficiently, but I agree.
However this not a cabin top traveler.

Terminate the sheet with a swivel. Worked for me.

Ditto this.

It would be a setscrew, most likely requiring an Allen wrench.
Do not overtighten.

Did I miss something in the post?

Try sheeting on a main sheet on a 40 foot yacht in 25 knots of breeze without a winch.
