lost wind vane

I have had 2 wind vanes disappear from the masthead on my Ericson 35 in the last year while tied up at our dock, most recently after a 25-30 kt squall. I'm not sure if it was the wind or maybe a sea gull. Anybody have experience with lost wind vanes?

Re: lost wind vane

I lost one in Hurricane Sandy. Ripped clear off the bracket.

New one from Simrad seems pretty solid although I had a wire tie to lock the bracket release just in case.

Often birds. Once for me it was lightening!
