Dodger Window Help/Idea

hi all
i have a sailboat dodger with a cracked vinyl window in front..( soft vinyl, can roll up dodger for storage). I'm getting some crazy numbers (250.????) or crazier wait times @$120. (sept) for replacement.. thought that i might cut out the existing pane and leaving a one or two inch border and use that as a base to glue another sheet to that. seems a no brainer with a flexible glue and solid adhesion.. anyone?
if so, recommended glue?
thanx in advance
eddie

It won’t be pretty but not a bad idea.

Re: Dodger Window Help/Idea

It's the middle of Summer in North America. Every shop has a line of customer's needing various work.

The replacement will be to sew a new panel over the old panel and then cut the old panel out. If you cut out the panel now, it will be tricky to have the dodger hold its shape and tricky to replace the panel.

Leave it in and tape it with clear tape and wait for the work to be done.

OR

Find someone with a marine sewing machine who is willing to do the work for you.

That is why we ended up buying a Sailrit sewing machine and learning how to do the work ourselves. My wife is a quilter with extensive sewing experience. SO the learning curve was not quite so steep for us (her).

Re: Dodger Window Help/Idea

Ditto on the sewing machine. You need one with a walking foot. Be prepared to pay for it. And they are very heavy. Not great to have on the boat when you are not using it. But we have one and when you need it man it is great. At the cost of having new panels sewed it pays for itself almost the first time. If you get good at it you can start charging for the service. My girlfriend does odd sewing jobs around the marina for some good extra cash.
