water still coming in!?

groco thru seacock is closed but still water coming in. I do not have a leak right now. Put when I went to change a hose the water kept coming out. The valve easily moves up or down but apparently it is not stopping the water when it is closed. I think I have a bit of a problem. It is a draining thru hull. Could something be stuck inside the ball or something? Does anybody have experience with this issue?

Re: water still coming in!?

Groco makes good seacocks. I’ve seen some non-marine rated valves (think Home Depot) installed on a thru hull where the ball completely wasted away. But assuming this is all marine bronze, take a look at where the handle joins the square key of the ball driver. If the ball inside is still intact, then it sounds like either the handle or the ball driver is stripped. But if you see the ball driver move when you turn the handle, it is most likely the ball that has gone bad. Anyway you look at it, unless it is just the handle you’re looking at replacement.

Always replace with quality parts even if they cost more. The boat you save will be your own

How much water comes out? Full gusher or just a trickle? Does flow change when you open and close the valve? Does the handle have any resistance or does it just flop from open to close with no effort at all?

Re: water still coming in!?

This isn't the water inlet for the engine cooling is it?

Mine (Groco) backflows for a while whenever I close the seacock and open the strainer to pull it out for cleaning. The small trickle is coming from the water from the heat exchanger which is higher up.

Re: water still coming in!?

It was a trickle. I did manage to get it to stop. I did it by changing over and over again a few times opening and closing and turning them each way closed.
Thanks for replies.
Now if I could just get that Mexican plumping parts from leaking!
