So the cams can be swapped out for different profiles?

Re: Small watermaker 3 gph

Yes, you can change the cams out no problem and experiment. Pumptec will sell them to you.

Around $20 plus shipping.

The flow difference between a .075 and .085 at 800psi is right around 2 gph more which should result in an expect product water of 4.3 gph.

All in all it is working out OK and is fine for this boat. Just local cruising and I don't like fetching water. Do not think this would be a great fit for a full time cruiser. Probably would order something like the 40GPH SeawaterPro system.

That is good to know. I hope you report back on your findings.

I joined with Brenda on her initial Pumptec order so hopefully will have a pump in a month or so to play with.

Put together a 14" membrane with a 107SS (new version of the 116C). Ended up getting 3.4-3.6 GPH at 130 TDS. 800 PSI. Have run about 25 gallons through it so far and the flow has remained fairly constant and TDS has continued to go down as time goes on.
This is great performance. Based on the chart for 107SS, you should be drawing around 10A or less than 3AHr per gallon, which is fantastic. My only reason for recommending larger membranes is that they are more popular and cheaper than the smaller membranes. They will produce more water and will need to be replaced just as often but at a lower cost.

Another idea (also mentioned a while ago) is to have a second pump for even greater output and redundancy. These pumps are so cheap that you can build an inexpensive device that is fully fault proof (two motors, two pumps, two membranes) for less than $1,500.

Re: Small watermaker 3 gph

I’ve built one and get 10 lph when running it on 12 volts. The 116c has 3 inlets and outlets and you blank the ones you don’t use. I run my Karcher k2 thru one of the pressure OUTLETS back into the pumptec 116c and from there it goes out the preconnected 12 volt side and into the membrane. . When running on the K2 I get 38 litres per hour. This is about a $150 Aud upgrade that gives an awesome boost to production when motoring or AC power is available. The k2 side has an isolation valve for when running on DC. Running this way ( using a pressure side outlet as an inlet) works great. I send prefiltered water to the suction of the k2 on the transom and the k2 hose in to the shower where the watermaker sits on a shelf silently making water. So…. Making one of these dual function/ dual voltage is definitely the go!

Re: Small watermaker 3 gph

That sounds brilliant Seafever17! Great to know you can adapt it to be karcher powered to get large volume if needed. Do you have some pictures or a video of it running? What's the noise level like when running the 116c, and when running the K2?

Definitely curious.

How many watts does that Karcher draw? The spec shows 1500, that is a lot.

Did you end up getting the .105 cams for this pump?

When I asked for the .105 Pumptec did not want to sell them with a cam that large due to the possibility of the motor overheating.

That is a pretty good price on your website, is that $50 off of that?

Thanks and Happy New Year All!

Re: Small watermaker 3 gph

Thanks to Pizzaz and everyone who has contributed here. I’m a new full-time cruiser and have a 3gph version running. I’m currently at the north end of Lake Worth Florida if anyone would like to see/hear one operate.

You should post a couple of pictures of your installation. I'm sure we would all be interested to see what you did. What kind of output are you getting ? What kind of power usage ? We need details man !

Small watermaker 3 gph

The details. It makes about 3gph while drawing 14.5 amps on batteries+solar. Batteries currently reading 12.67v while it is making water in full sun at about 1300edt.

My installation is a non-installation. It’s portable. Sort of (see pics). To get it in/out of the aft cockpit locker the water maker itself comes out of my cheesy box and the box had to be cut in half and reassembled in the locker. I went with the 14” membrane to keep it small.

To use: open the locker lid, run the intake hose over the side with a dive weight to hold it down and put the brine discharge over the other side.

I’ve had difficult keeping air bubbles out of the system and you can see from the pics the pre filter is “upside down” which seems to have solved the problem. I do not have a feed pump.

The sound is not bad at all. Noticeable in the cabin but normal conversation is no problem. A little louder in the cockpit.

Total cost was around USD1500

Re: Small watermaker 3 gph

Scott I like your system install that is not an install, lol. Good idea. Interesting on the air bubbles but we have also had similar on a different water system and filter so the upside down installation is a good pointer to fix that.
