Re: Holding tank questions

I work offshore on large vessels. Our chief engineer uses Fleishmans Yeast in our 1500 gallon holding tank. Seems to work very well!

Re: Holding tank questions

I have a seized waste tank cap on the deck (actually two). The tanks haven’t been opened in almost a year. Need to get them open so I can pump them out and rinse. Going to try some PB Blaster. Any other suggestions?

That's tough. Worst case you may have to remove it and get it apart. The Oring blocks the blaster from getting to the threads. Brute force is the only way I have got them out. But you need to make a "key" (2 holes or slot?) that fits the holes or slot perfectly instead of loosely like many are. Or hammer and drift punch.

Use lanolin or water pump grease on the threads and o ring when you get it ready to re use.

Re: Holding tank questions

Thanks. I have a solid key. Pump out tech told me I could separate the whole cap from deck, pull that off the hose barb and replace with new. Will work On it some more before I go that far

Re: Holding tank questions

Try to force some Lock-Ease (it comes in a spray can) into it by spraying the edges of the cap. If that doesn't work, remove the pumpout hose from the fitting and spray the Lock Ease up into the fitting from the bottom of it. Walmart has it.

Re: Holding tank questions

Update on the seized caps... managed to get one flange off the deck and separated from the hose. Found a new flange/cap with perfect fit. Reattached hose and clamps and bedded the waste flange in deck. Pumped it out and we have a working toilet and tank! Now on to the second one.
